WHAT IS COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY?

Communication technology was refer to the application and use of technology to make communication more effective than through using traditional such as computers. Computers are machines that can be programmed to perform complex and repetitive procedures more quickly, precisely and reliably and also can quickly store with retrieve large amounts of data.

Communication technology facilitates communication between individuals or groups who are not physically present at the same location. Systems such as telephones, telex, fax, radio, television, and video are included, as well as more recent computer-based technologies, including electronic data interchange and e-mail.

Communications Technologies address the issue of how signals can be transmitted and properly received over a noisy channel. They can range from simple point-to-point voice communication to multi-party, multi-channel and multi-media applications. Examples of communications technology platforms include cellular systems, wireless LANs and wireless personal area networks.

EXAMPLE OF COMMUNICATION

EXAMPLE OF COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
Mobile Phone
A mobile phone (also known as a cellular phone, cell phone and a hand phone) allows calls into the public switched telephone system over a radio link.
A mobile phone can make and receive telephone calls to and from the public telephone network which includes other mobiles and fixed-line phones across the world. It does this by connecting to a cellular network provided by a mobile network operator. In addition to telephony, modern mobile phones also support a wide variety of other services such as text messaging, MMS, email, Internet access, short-range wireless communications (infrared, Bluetooth), business applications, gaming and photography. Mobile phones that offer these more general computing capabilities are referred to as smart phones.

The example of mobile phone is smart phones .Smart phones have become powerful tools for higher education because they enable voice calls and Internet connectivity. Students are using these devices to become as mobile as possible, decreasing the need to carry laptops. Students use smart phones to take notes, record lectures, create spreadsheets and Presentations, track class schedules, use course-management systems, visit social Networking sites, broadcast short blogs through Twitter, and use instant messaging.
Unlike standard smart phones, dual-mode phones can connect directly to IP networks—in this case, to the campus network. Because of this, dual-mode phones can be used as a “wireless extension” of students’ IP phones (desk phones) in their dorm rooms. The dual-mode phone can also be used for myriad applications for learning both inside and outside the classroom.

INTERNET
A global network connecting millions of computer. More than 100 countries are linked into exchanges of data, news and opinions. Unlike online services, which are centrally controlled, the Internet is decentralized by design. Each Internet computer, called a host, is independent. Its operators can choose which Internet services to use and which local services to make available to the global Internet community.

Remarkably, this anarchy by design works exceedingly well.  There are a variety of ways to access the Internet .It is also possible to gain access through a commercial Internet Services Provider (ISP).

Example of internet is Facebook. Facebook is a social networking website introduced last February 4, 2004. A Free access website is privately possessed and operated by Facebook, Incorporated.

Facebook is social software. Which appeals to adolescence and university students. These students all the time correspond or communicate explicitly concerning their lives, estimation or opinion, interests, and academics. Though the majority of us working with adults are awkward sharing ideas or information in open surroundings, the social feature of Facebook creates fun and its rapidity of learning knowledge. From the young people and university students’ perspectives not utilizing Facebook are “social responsibility or liability. A few professionals not possess an online presence or attendance can be career liability.

Facebook also is mobile phone. Containing Facebook on your mobile maintains you up to date with posts, statuses, and deliberations.Through Facebook and other social media sites, we will study or learn about each one of us, discuss or talk about concern or issues and methodologies, and defy each other.

ADVANTAGES OF COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

ADVANTAGES  OF COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
Communication technology has helped to make the communicatioing make global communication more effin process more convenient and easier. Communication technologies such as web cameras, cell phones, email, text messaging, faxes, social networking websites all are example of communication technology and on-line voice callcient and economical. Organizations utilize electronic communication in day-to-day operations while people personally use communication technology to strengthen social lives. Technological advances, it seems, are bon-line with representatives to solve problems faster. Businesses now market their products and services through emails and texts. Businesses can even hold visual meetings on-line, from opposite parts of the world, something that was impossible only a few years ago.

Knowledge
Communication technology puts the world at your fingertips. Being able to communicate faster and cheaper with other countries makes people more knowledgeable about world affairs. You can now enroll in an online university or college, and talk with your professor through the internet. People are able to instantly pass on important information during emergencies and disasters.
Speed

In many cases, time is of the essence in communication. Fortunately, communication technologies allow you to pass along messages at lightning speed. This makes it easier to prevent major mistakes because of distance. Everyone can be in sync at once.

Accessibility
By making communication more convenient, communication technology has helped to make communication more accessible, especially long-distance communication. Through various computer-mediated communication methods--communication done through the use of a computer, such as email, instant messages, and social networking websites--you can easily and instantly communicate with people in other cities, states and countries. This is vastly different from early forms of long-distance communication. Early forms of long-distance communication included the use of homing pigeons and/or runners to carry a message to its destination. How long a message would take before reaching its destination depended on the distance between the person sending the message and the person receiving the message.

Mass Communication
Organizations, like schools and businesses, use electronic communication to share information with a large number of people. Businesses can send mass emails to employees in order to inform workers about things like rule changes and important meetings. Many academic institutions use mass communication in order to maintain a well informed campus.
In case of an emergency, such as a spreading fire or presence of an armed assailant, mass communication can quickly inform people of the situation, giving enough notice to allow people to take the necessary actions to stay safe.

DISADVANTAGES OF COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

DISADVANTAGES OF COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

Technology is constantly changing the way we communicate. Some of these changes have been positive in nature. However, some of the changes have negatively impacted our ability to effectively send and receive messages. With globalization forcing us to keep up with the times or get left behind, it's critical that we understand these potential communication roadblocks as we incorporate new technology into our daily lives.
Lack of Context
When you text or email, there's no vocal tone and you can't see facial expressions. As such, it is easy to misread a message that is intended to be sarcastic or not understand the severity of a situation. This can lead to major misunderstandings
Laziness
Communication technology can lead to laziness. For example, instead of walking over to someone in the same room as you to strike up a conversation you would send an instant message.
Written Communication
Written computer mediated communication, like instant messages and micro-blogging, is a contributing factor to poor writing skills. Poor grammar, misspellings, and inappropriate use of abbreviations can become developing problems as a result of written computer-mediated communication.
Addiction
Internet like alcohol and drugs, with the Internet student will be addictive. Signs of Internet addiction include lying about Internet use and becoming oblivious to events occurring in your personal life and daily life. Addiction with the internet student will destroy their education such as playing computer game and others.
